Work Your Way Up

Published by catseyeediting at 6:30 pm under Publishing, Writing Edit This

When you dream about your writing career, I’m assuming you think about the excitement of publishing your first book and receiving your first royalty check. While it’s fun to dream about these wonderful accomplishments, you might want to give yourself a reality check before you get carried away. Getting published requires a lot of commitment on your part, and I doubt your dream covered the part where you receive dozens or more rejections before hearing that first “yes.” Think about starting at the bottom and working your way up. For example, there are different types of blogs out there that might appeal to your interests. Plus, you will be published and get your name out there. It might not pay a lot, but you are at least starting your writing journey to the top.

I agree… it’s a long rocky road to the top. :) Though my first response was a yes… all of the subsequent ones were no.

I noticed that you write articles for a few different places… but I didn’t notice Suite101… you should check them out. I like writing for them, the pay isn’t great, but the exposure is good and the editor feedback is excellent!
